Now that you have survived getting out of the parking lot let us see what happens after you get home.
You pull into your driveway; now what?
What else; LOOK AROUND. Do this before, you turn off your engine or get out. Same drill as before, look for what is out of place, or who or what does not belong.
Now look at your front door. Is the outside light still on that you left on? Are there any other lights on within the home that should not be on? Is there anything unusual or out of place about your home? If anything, I mean anything, is out of place or does not seem right.
DO NOT ENTER THE HOME. Back up, drive away or go to a neighbor’s home and call the Police.
Let the Police check the premises for you; that is what they are there for. Do not worry about bothering the Police you will be doing exactly what they would want a member of their own family to do in similar circumstances.
Are you starting to get an idea of what you are doing?
You are starting to develop an awareness of what is going on around you at all times.
Now do this day in and day out and soon it becomes second nature to you. You have developed a habit. You are also fine-tuning that 6th sense, that “gut feeling” you have heard so much about.
Awareness is the building block, “the rock” on which you build your own personal security system.
Once you become aware of things around you, from a security standpoint, you will be better able to judge your need for other security devices, such as alarm systems, etc. You are also less likely to be sold something you do not need or want.
You will be better able to evaluate your own individual security needs.
