This awareness of what is going on around you does not only apply to when you park your car.
You need to use your newfound awareness also when you are driving. Be aware of who is around you. What type of vehicles, how they are being operated, the condition of the driver and passengers? Where are these vehicles in relation to your car? Do any of them seem to be following you?
You need to be looking around all the time. Be aware of what is going on around you, all the time. Try to leave yourself some maneuvering room between your car and the one in front. Especially when you come to a stop. Do not allow yourself to be “boxed in” between the car in front and the car behind you. Always try to give yourself a route of escape.
Constantly plan in your mind what you would do if the car in front suddenly stopped or had an accident. What would you do if someone approached your car while you were stopped at a light? Plan ahead. Practice different scenarios in your head. Being aware gives you the edge. Being aware of what is going on ahead of time gives you the opportunity to avoid a confrontation.
Now let us look at some other areas. What do you do if your car breaks down? Plan on it. It happens. It will probably happen to you, somewhere, sometime.
One of the greatest inventions has been the cell phone. Get one. It can save your life. Not only can you call the police but you can also call a tow truck, your family, order a pizza or your sister in Kentucky. Just knowing that you have the ability to call someone in an emergency can be comforting.
