Of course at this point the suitcases become irrelevant because the mere fact that his car is parked at a motel tells everyone he is traveling somewhere. Of course you can always stay with friends or relatives instead of a motel. But do not ever leave the state.
Why? Because the second you cross the state line you are marked. How, you ask?

Okay, the next time you stop for gas, get yourself a pen and piece of paper and walk to the rear of your car.
Now, write down on the paper the state you are now in.
Now next to it write down the name of the state displayed on your tag number.
They should be different.
You are now a foreigner with a conveniently displayed sign on the rear of your vehicle that tells everyone within sight that you are not from these parts.
Now how vulnerable do you feel? You are a rolling advertisement that you are a potential victim.
As a matter of fact you make a better victim than someone who lives in that state.
Why? Because you are less likely to return for prosecution and the criminals know this.
You’re not familiar with the area. You are probably carrying more cash than most people because you are on vacation.
